INFORMAL REPORT. DSR TMC-S10436A (PHASE I). DEVELOPMENT STUDY TO EVALUATE EFFECTS ON MISSILE PERFORMANCE FROM DISSOLVED NITROGEN IN TITAN II PROPELLANTS. SM68B.
Abstract
Too frequent repressurizations were required on the Titan II propellant tanks, primarily the Stage II oxidizer tank. The pressure decay appeared to be caused primarily by nitrogen absorption into the propellants. The degree of nitrogen absorption in the Stage II oxidizer tank as a function of time was empirically determined from the average first pressure decay cycle. Several changes were proposed to increase the average first repressurization time from 4.3 days to 46.8 days. The field data on which these recommendations were based was of doubtful accuracy, but the indicated general conditions and trends should be valid. (Author)
