FREQUENCY CONVERTER UNITS FOR L-BAND, S-BAND, C-BAND AND X-BAND.

Abstract

The band-pass filter for the X-band unit was measured and is now being used in the preliminary converter. A new band-pass filter design for the L-band converter was made and is currently being constructed. A commercial low-pass filter was evaluated for possible use. Extensive measurements were made of the C-band impedance of a Sylvania 1N53B cyrstal driven with a Ka-band local oscillator. The power handling capabilities of various types of crystals were evaluated. An experimental down converter, with a narrowband IF matching device, was assembled. Conversion losses and the deviation from linearity of output at high input signal levels were measured. Further investigation of the deterioration threshold and the values of conversion loss of various types of crystals at power levels appropriate to this project will be made. (Author)
