DIODE, MILLIMETER WAVE TYPE MIXER (3.2 MM).

Abstract

The object of this program is to develope and evaluate tunnel diodes and point contact diodes for use as mixers at 3.2 millimeters. Preliminary results are presented on a galliumarsenide, phosphor bronze whisker point contact diode mixer having a high IF output (2 - 4 Gc). Background evidence, as well as current measurements, are presented which show the advantages gained by using a high IF as compared to a low IF (less than 100 Mc). Poor performance of movable waveguide contacting shorts has initiated the fabrication of electro-formed waveguide. A low impedance variable pulse width-amplitude circuit has been developed for pulse bonding tunnel diode junctions. Several materials are considered for tunnel diodes. (Author)
