OPERATIONAL TEST + EVALUATION F-105D FREE-GYRO DOPPLER,
Abstract
The directional gyro (D. G.) mode of the APN-131 Doppler Navigation System was designed for use in areas where magnetic heading references do not provide the precise information required by self-contained navigation systems. Analysis of the relationship between the APN-131 Navigation System and the Lear 5010B Attitude Ref erence System revealed a basic incompatibility rendering the DG mode of the APN-131 Navigation System useless in the very areas for which it was primarily intended. This test evaluated a successful modification to the directional gyro heading reference which enables the Lear 5010B Altitude Reference System to furnish proper D. G. heading signals to the APN-131 Navigation System. (Author)
