FAR-INFRARED STUDY OF OPTICAL MODES AND INDEX OF REFRACTION IN CADMIUM SULFIDE,

Abstract

The primary results which are presented show that the measured index of refracton (n approximately equal to 2.1) in the range from 50 to 150 microns is consistent with the single resonance of the transverse optical mode at 41.5 microns. This work does not lead to a method for coupling to the longitudinal optical mode of polar crystals from an external source of electromagnetic energy and much remains to be done with this problem.
