EFFECT OF ELECTRODE CONFIGURATION ON THERMIONIC CONVERTER OUTPUT CHARACTERISTICS.

Abstract

No significant difference was observed in the optimized power output of a converter with coaxial cylindrical electrodes from that obtained from one with plane-parallel electrodes. The current-voltage characteristics of the test vehicle studied could not be altered by creating a discharge at the edge of the interelectrode gap other than shifting the ignition voltage. The split collector configuration, howev r, proved a very useful tool in exploring both gaseous and surface phenomena occurring in the thermionic converter. (Author)
