RESPONSE SPECTRA FOR HIGH AIR-BLAST LOADS,

Abstract

The computed response of a number of damped single-degree-of-freedon dynamic systems to the side-on air-blast loads from multimegaton explosions is presented. The computations were originally used in the design of protective structures. The computations were carried out on a high-speed digital computer and the results are plotted in the form of response spectra showing maximum displacement versus system frequency for peak overpressures from 300 to 10,000 psi. It is believed that the publication of these spectra plots serves the general interest and is useful in both research and design. The basic load used in the computations is a decaying triple exponential pressure time pulse derived by Brode and very recently made available. Moreover, the magnitude and range of loads are much larger than usually considered in such response calculations. (Author)
