INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF ULTRASONICS ON THE DEFORMATION CHARACTERISTICS OF METALS.

Abstract

In this interim report the softening effect with high intensities of an ultrasonic treatment in demonstrated taking an aluminum crystal as an example. Whereas, with adequate superimposed ultrasonics the crystal deforms to a great extent nearly free from stress, the fragments obtained prove to be markedly hardened. The two-fold effect of ultrasonic treatment on undeformed basic material--hardening and, in case of the treatment taking place during plastic deformation, superimposed softening--is again proved by the experiment.
