APPLICATION OF DISLOCATION THEORY TO DEFORMATION PROCESSES,
Abstract
A review of basic theoretical aspects of dislocations is presented in an introduction to the theory of yielding, flow stress and associated phenomena both in simple crystals and polycrystalline aggregates. There is a large amount of literature on the phenomenlogical aspects of plastic deformation in metal processing. The present report has indicated the possibility to formulate a microscopic theory of such processes as a complementary method of investigation. The complexity of deformation processes on a microscopic scale precludes at the present time a simple extension of the theoretical concepts into technological manufacturing processes. However, an intermediate theory, such as the continuum theory of dislocations, may upon further development turn out to be the most valuable approach. (Author)
