THEORETICAL INVESTIGATIONS ON THE LIGHT SCATTERING OF SPHERES. XV. THE WAVE LENGTH EXPONENTS AT SMALL ALPHA-VALUES,

Abstract

Both theoretical and empirical expressions are derived for the wave length exponent of lateral scattering and turbidity expected for isotropic nonabsorbing spheres which are small compared to the wave length (alpha less than or equal to 1.5). Use of these equations eliminates the need of interpolations between Mie-data preiously given on the computations of Mie-data for small alpha-values not considered before (alpha less than 0.4). The data cover all mvalues less than or equal to 1.33. Reasons are given for their propective usefulness in investigating spherical or quasispherical scattering bodies of unknown low concentration located at large distances from the observer. (Author)
