PEM FOR GOLD-DOPED GERMANIUM INFRARED DETECTOR TYPE IR400.

Abstract

Work was performed on a PEM for producing ptype gold-doped germanium infrared detectors, Type IR400. During the third quarter of the contract period, work was concentrated on production, evaluation, and testing of singlecrystal material and on sealing barium fluoride windows to glass. Several germanium ingots of varying resistivities and dopant concentrations were pulled by the zone leveling technique. Wafers were sliced from various zones of these ingots and their parameters measured. Detectors were fabricated from these, and their characteristics confirmed the detectivities predicted from the parameter measurements. Successful barium fluoride seals to glass were obtained. Detectors made with this type of window seal not only withstood the stresses of processing but also environmental and storage testing. Tables of evaluation data on both ingots and cells are presented. Enviromental test results on barium fluoride window seals are presented. (Author)
