STUDIES OF AIR FORCE EXECUTIVES. II. PRETESTING A TASK INVENTORY FOR EXECUTIVES (TIE) OF THE USAF,

Abstract

A 100-item experimental Task Inventory for Executives (TIE) was derived and developed from Hemphill's factor analysis of executive tasks in which 10 task factors were isolated. The 80 subjects were required to select a single category for each of the 100 items. The results were analyzed on the basis of 3 sets for scores: (1) importance of tasks, (2) frequency of performance, and (3) performance of tasks. Results showed the 100 items to possess adequate utility for this sample of Air Force executives. The significant differences in importance and frequency of task performace were related to systematic differences that existed only between the 4 executive levels. The higher the level, the higher the scores. (Author)
