SERVICE LIFE ANALYSIS OF ATLAS MA-2 VERNIER ENGINE S/N 332213.

Abstract

Presented are the results of a service life evaluation of Atlas MA-2 vernier engine S/N 332213 after exposure to 42 months of service life. Despite the fact that the engine was contaminated, it is highly probable that the engine would have fired successfully in its operational environment. The strong odors of fuel being emitted from the thrust chamber during the functional tests resulted in the removal and cleaning of the injector prior to hot firing the engine. It can be concluded that the contamination occurred subsequent to being accepted by the customer. The engine was successfully hot fired proving the integrity of the assembly. (Author)
