SOME EFFECTS OF ANHARMONIC POTENTIAL ON LATTICE VIBRATIONS,

Abstract

In lattice dynamics an anharmonic potential causes the force constants to be temperature dependent. In this article, a simple but significant coordinate transformation shows the explicit relationship between them. Such a relationship is seen to be in agreement with actual measurement. For a linear monatomic chain with the nearest neighbor interaction and an anharmonic potential, a calculation of the frequency is carried out by a perturbation method. The result is similar to that of the next nearest neighbor interaction. (Author)
