SERVICE LIFE ANALYSIS OF ATLAS MA-2 SUSTAINER ENGINE S/N 222112.

Abstract

The results of a service life evaluation of Atlas MA-2 sustainer engine S/N 222112 after exposure to 42 months of service life are presented. This engine was shipped to SBAMA from Warren Air Force Base because of a turbopump fuel seal leak and excessive propellant utilization valve leakage. For this reason, the engine was not capable of emergency war order status at the beginning of the service life analysis. The components observed were satisfactory with the exception of the propellant utilization valve. A recommendation for extension of engine service life cannot be based on the analysis of this engine because of the limited number of components tested. The soft goods analysis revealed no degradation or trend toward deterioration that would effect the service life of the components of the engine system. (Author)
