IMPROVED BLACK RADIATION DETECTOR. PHOTODETECTOR SERIES 60TH REPORT.

Abstract

A black radiation detector has been developed for use as a standard against which infrared de tectors can be evaluated. Constructed in the form of a cone with its interior coated with black Sicon, this improved detector is believed to have an effective absorptance of 0.995 or more out to 45 microns. Measurements of the spectral characteristics of three radiation thermocouple detectors, two thermistor bolometers, and a Golay pneumatic detector are compared with that of the conical detector, over the spectral range of 1 to 40 microns.
