RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF MINIATURE, ENVIRON MENTALIZED, ELECTROSTATIC IMAGE ORTHICON.

Abstract

The development of an electrostatic image orthicon is described. The first and second phases of the contract, namely the development of the electrostatic return-beam scanning sec tion and the electrostatic image section, are described separately. The two main problems en countered with the mating of the image section with the scanning section are low resolution and excessive curvature of field. Both the resolu tion and curvature of field improve with image section applied voltage. The image-section edge-focus is poor even at high voltages, be cause of curvature of field. Limiting center resolution obtained in the present tube is 600 television lines. (Author)
