INVESTIGATE THE PROPERTIES OF GLASSES TRANSMITTING IN THE 3 TO 5 AND 8 TO 14 MICRON WINDOWS.

Abstract

Part I includes measurement of the optical, chemical and thermo-mechanical properties of 20 glasses selected from the Servo Corporation proprietary composition field As-S-Se-Te having good transmission to 12 or 13 microns and softening points in excess of 100 C. Part II is an investigation of the long wavelength absorption characteristics of As-Se-Te glasses as affected by formulation parameters including composition, thermal history, impurity levels, melting procedures, etc. Initial work has been concentrated on the sharp absorption band centered at about 12.8 microns.
