OBSERVATIONS ON COUNTERWEIGHTS TO RISING CHINESE COMMUNIST POWER,

Abstract

The probable augmentation of Chinese Communist power and improvement in China's strategic position during the next decade make the need increasingly urgent for economic viability and growth in the non-Communist countries of the Far East and SE Asia if they are to resist Communist encroachment. The necessity for creating additional Asian counterweights to offset rising Chinese Communist power makes it imperative for the US to convince Asian leaders of the urgency of building up the defenses of their countries and promoting economic, political, and social reforms to strengthen underdeveloped nations.
