THE CASE FOR VARIABLE GEOMETRY,

Abstract

The case for the variable-geometry wing, primarily from the viewpoints of design and cost is discussed. Also discussed are such items as maintenance, structural complexity, flutter, weight penalty, and external stores arrangement. A comparison is made between two designs which are identical except that one has a fixed wing and the other a variable-geometry wing. (Author)
