AN INVESTIGATION OF THE HF WIRE-GRID LENS ANTENNA FOR DIRECTION FINDING.

Abstract

The theoretical investigation of the HF WireGrid Lens Antenna for use as an HF directionfinding antenna is reported. An electromagnetic solution of the radiation characteristics of the HF Wire Grid Lens Antenna is outlined. This solution yields accurate radiation patterns for lenses having any diameter-to-wavelength ratio. The solution also includes the effect on the radiation pattern of the flared horn surrounding an actual wire-grid lens, both for the case when the horn surfaces are constructed of isotropic metal conductors, and for the case where the horn surfaces are constructed from radial wires. The validity of the lens solution has been tested against results obtained for the special case of a Luneburg Lens. (Author)
