VELOCITY DISTRIBUTION IN THE WAKE OF BODIES OF REVOLUTION BASED ON DRAG COEFFICIENT

Abstract

A theoretical analysis of the turbulent wake behind a body of revolution has been made, and an equation for the velocity distribution in the wake has been found in terms of four constants which are determined from experiments. Measurements of the velocity distribution in the wake behind twelve bodies of revolution are presented, and the four constants for each body are derived. A generalization of the empirical constants in terms of body drag coefficient is made. Calculations using the empirical constants compare satisfactorily with measured distributions.
