RESEARCH ON THE VOLUME RECOMBINATION OF CESIUM IONS

Abstract

The feasibility of the ion beam method of measuring the recombination cross section of cesium ions is demonstrated. Preliminary results are given. The atomic recombination cross section of C(s+) is less than or equal to 5 x 10 to the -19th power sq cm, while the molecular (dissociative) recombination cross section of Cs(2+) is less than or equal to 3 x 10 to the -14th power sq cm. The method is described briefly and the results are presented in detail and discussed.
