MATERIALS FOR THE SPACE AGE,

Abstract

The scope of the Air Force materials research effort encompasses all advanced system requirements, as reflected by analysis of their mission profile, for which materials capability does not exist. To portray the vital role of materials, a review is made of serveral typical advance system concepts. The most critical materials problems, as represented by primary system components within the major areas of primary and secondary structure, environmental protection, electronics and energy transfer systems are discussed.
