EFFECT OF TEST TEMPERATURE UPON THE TOPOGRAPHY OF FRACTURE SURFACES OF AMS 6434 SHEET STEEL SPECIMENS,

Abstract

AMS 6434 sheet steel fracture surfaces were examined with the electron microscope. Fracture surfaces formed at 81, -100 and -280 F show a decrease in visible plastic deformation on the surface with decreasing test temperature as well as a change in fracture mode from ductile rupture to cleavage.
