Abstract

The existence of OF radicals has not yet been proved. Since certain elusive OF-containing compounds would be strong oxidizers, identification and study of these radicals should assist in the synthesis of new oxidizers. The purpose of this research is to produce, isolate and identify the OF., O2F. and O3F. radicals. It is planned to prepare these radicals by two methods: I. Bombardment of OF2, O2F2, O3F2, and O2BF4 with H atoms at 77 K. or lower. II. Irradiation of these compounds with Co60 gamma-rays at 77 K. or lower. (Author)
