STUDIES ON SHOCK WAVE PRESSURE-TIME GAUGES.

Abstract

A simple apparatus was set up with which the outputs of various elements could be examined. Ceramic cylinders were loaded by a 3189 gram weight, held by a string. The weight was released by burning the string. Output of the element upon release of the weight was measured. Cylinders of barium titanate and lead metaniobate ceramics were tested. The procedure followed was to determine the output of the cylinder upon release of the weight, to heat the element, to allow it to return to room temperature, and to redetermine its output. It was found necessary to give particular emphasis to the first result obtained after re-cooling. (Author)
