MEMBRANE NATURAL FREQUENCIES FOR AXISYMMETRIC VIBRATION OF DEEP SPHERICAL CAPS,

Abstract

This paper contains the results of an analysis of the natural frequencies for the axially symmetric vibration of a thin shell in the form of a segment of a sphere with a free edge. In the present analysis only the membrane theory is used, i.e., bending effects are neglected. The effects of both the longitudinal, i.e., in-surface and transverse perpendicular-to-the-surface inertias are retained, and the entire range of opening angles is considered. The main body of the results is obtained by numerical solution of the frequency equation although a number of limiting cases are treated analytically. (Author)
