OBSERVATIONS ON DURATION OF IMMUNITY AGAINST ANTHRAX INFECTIONS,
Abstract
The antianthrax vaccine, prepared from the acapsular edematogenous 1190 R Strain in the form of a spore suspension in 40% glycerinated water with the addition of 0.6 pro mil. saponine and 1 pro mil. agar, confers a durable immunity to guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, and horses against an experimental anthrax infection. In guinea pigs the immunity duration was followed up until six months after vaccination with 100% resistance. A drop of this percentage to 80 may occur also after 30 days during winter and spring. Rabbits resisted 100% until three months, but even after 4 months the resistance was 80%. In goats the immunity duration was found till 7-1/2 months, while it was 8 months (237 days) in horses. The 0.25 ml dose of the vaccine, containing about 10 million spores, is sufficient for the immunization of the goats. (Author)
