NITROSO RUBBER RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION

Abstract

A satisfactory scaleup process for the production of trifluoronitrosomethane was developed. The process involves the decarboxylation of trifluoroacetyl nitrite in refluxing FC-43, (C4F9)3N. Copolymerization of nitroso monomer with tetrafluoroethylene yielded gums of 300,000-500,000 average molecular weight. Means of achieving M values over 1 x 10 to the 6th power are under active investigation.
