RESPONSE SPEED, THE EEG ALPHA CYCLE, AND THE AUTONOMIC CARDIOVASCULAR CYCLE,

Abstract

Alpha cycle influences responses to visual stimuli early in the course of neural events. It influences reaction time and brightness judgment, but the phase relationships are variable. By contrast, the autonomic cardiovascular cycle influences only reaction time and is independent of stimulus modality, appearing to reflect a wave of motor inhibition paralleling sinus and vagal autonomic afferent discharge.
