RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF AIRBORNE THERMOPLASTIC REAL-TIME RECORDER-DISPLAY.

Abstract

Efforts were directed toward several preliminary investigations conducted on specific thermoplastic recorder-display system problems; and presents an overall system design, and an electrical, optical, and mechanical system speci fication. Several investigations were carried out to permit defining the system performance characteristics, and to isolate and resolve any problem areas. The principal investigations were concerned with: (1) Optical design, (2) Dynamic range and transfer function of thermoplastic tape, and (3) Line scan integration. Additional investigations were conducted on the airborne vacuum system, the electron gun, and the tape transport design. Although many of the technical areas considered in these studies are interrelated, the studies are presented separately for the purpose of clarity. (Author)
