DEVELOPMENT OF SHIP'S WING HELICOPTER CARGO TRANSFER SYSTEMS, MK I, II, AND III.

Abstract

Design studies for a cargo wing of 10,000-lb. capacity (with a desirable capacity of 14,000 lbs) were begun by USATRECOM in February 1963. It was considered possible to design and fabricate a wing that could handle such loads. The operationally limiting factor was the ability of any existing standard helicopter rotor system to lift 14,000 lbs. However, USATRECOM, designating the new wing the Mk IV ship-mounted helicopter cargo transfer platform, went forward with design studies and plans. No design has yet been completed, but development will continue through 1963. When substantial progress has been made this Technical Information Report will be revised to include the new platform.
