KINEMATIC AND DYNAMIC STUDIES OF PROPOSED DRIVE LINKAGE FOR IMPACT SOUND SOURCE, IMP MODEL 2,

Abstract

Analytical and graphical methods for motion and force determination in a high-speed mechanical catapult linkage are presented. The linkage utilizes a drive cable which takes on the configuration of a bowstring. Continuous representation is provided by differential equations for which solutions are obtained at a few boundary points. The graphical ''point-to-point'' method uses a summation of energies to determine the required input force for a specified output performance. The method furnishes an approximate means of assigning mass values to the various links. Graphical results are for the optimum condition of constant drive cable tension. (Author)
