RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF MATERIALS AND FABRICATION TECHNIQUES FOR THERMOELECTRIC POWER GENERATION.

Abstract

The values of the carrier mobilities and effective masses given for Mg3Sb2 in the literature were found to contain serious errors. The sources of these errors are discussed in the text; it is pointed out that the true values of the effective masses are probably much smaller, and the true values of the mobilities are probably much larger, than those which have been reported. The compositions and some of the properties of three magnesium-antimony and two magnesium-bismuth preparations are described. The room temperature thermoelectric figure of merit of one of the magnesium-bismuth preparations has been measured, and found to be a rather large value for an undoped specimen. (Author)
