EVALUATION OF THE SCINTILLA DIVISION, BENDIX FLAMEOUT DETECTOR IN F-8 AIRCRAFT,

Abstract

Test were conducted to evaluate a flameout detector for reliability in the F-8D airplane (J57-P20 engine) to substantiate a material change in the detector microswitch housing and to establish igniter electrode erosion rate under mormal operating conditions. Prototype flameout detector S/N X-0256 was used with the following modification: The ceramic microswitch housing was replaced with a lightweight plastic housing. The entire area surrounding the microswitch housing wab filled with potting compound to reduce vibration amplitude. The modified flameout detector is recommended for use in the F-80 aircraft.
