NARROW-BAND TUNNEL-DIODE SUPERREGENERATIVE AMPLIFIERS,

Abstract

An evaluation of tunnel-diode superregenerative amplifier circuits using two non-sinusoidal quench waveforms is presented. It was found that a 3-db noise-to-information bandwidth ratio of 2 to 1 in an aplifier of 60-db gain can be achieved using a sawtooth-like quench waveform; this represents a substantial improvement over results obtained by others using the conventional sinusoidal quench waveform. A selective review of existing superregenerative amplifier theory is presented, and effects on amplifier performance of various quench waveforms are discussed. (Author)
