Mechanical and Physical Properties of TZM Molybdenum Alloy Sheet and of Tungsten Sheet

Abstract

Progress is reported on a program to determine preliminary design data for tungsten and TZM molybdenum sheet produced in Phase I of the Refractory Metal Sheet Rolling Program. Efforts included the preparation of specimens from the tungsten sheet materials, compression and evaluations on the sheet in the recrystallized condition, additional bend evaluations on tungsten sheet in the optimum condition, tensile evaluations at room temperature and up to 2000 degree F on the tungsten sheets in the optimum condition, and nitration of room-temperature shear-strength determinations. The required specimen blanks for all of the scheduled evaluations on the TZM were sheared from two of the sheet thicknesses to be evaluated. Arrangements were made with Universal-Cyclops to fabricate 14 each fusion and spot-welded specimens of the TZM and tungsten materials.
