REDUCTION OF ANISOTROPY FIELD OF THIN MAGNETIC FILMS BY ANNEALING,

Abstract

The effects of post-deposition magnetic annealing on the magnetic properties of thin permalloy films were investigated. It was found that the largest decrease in anisotropy field was produced by annealing in a field along the transverse axis of a film. Anisotropy field values of 1.5 oersteds were obtained with little increase in angular dispersion. Values less than 1.0 oersted were obtained, but with a substantial increase in dispersion. Changes in magnetic properties produced by annealing were reversible at temperatures below 350 C. (Author)
