FEASIBILITY TEST OF THE ARMED UH-2A HELICOPTER.
Abstract
The installation of the M-6 and LAU 3A/A helicoper armament subsystems on the UH-2A helicopter was satisfactory in all areas to include location, ease of loading and weapons mounting, structural dynamic characteristics, reliability, weight and balance, and safety considerations. The following operational characteristics were satisfactory: safety, accuracy, fire control systems, stability, physical effects of firing, cockpit gas contamination, cockpit noise levels, stoppage rates, ease of loading and servicing, radio frequency, and electrostatic hazards. The UH-2A with the armament subsystems installed was employed effectively in all the tactical roles tested. It is concluded that the UH-2A is suitable as a helicopter weapons platform for the installation, operation, and effective employment of the M-6 and LUA 3A/A armament subsystems, and that the UH-2A in the armed configuration, is not suitable as High Speed Helicopter Weapon Systems (HSHWS) because of a failure to meet a number of the required characteristics outlined by the proposed qualitative material requirement for HSHWS.
