ANALYSIS AND TEST OF EXPLOSIVLEY DRIVEN MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMIC PULSE GENERATOR.

Abstract

This program has successfully demonstrated that electrical power can be generated from high explosives by magnetohydrodynamic means. One and one tenth megawatts of power were generated and supplied to an FX-1 flash tube. The low efficiency of the units produced during this project does not make them practical as generators of electrical energy. Efficiency can be improved substantially by (1) employing larger generators, and (2) by designing the load to match the generator characteristics. (Author)
