MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF 6A1-4V TITANIUM WELDMENT,

Abstract

The object of this investigation is to determine the mechanical properties of the 6A1-4V titanium weldment made with commercially pure titanium filler. Six tensile specimens were prepared from the welded panel and submitted for mechanical property determination. The specimens were tested at room temperature in a 150,000 pound Tatnall Universal Testing Machine. Tensile yield stress, ultimate tensile stress, and elongation in a 2-inch gage length were recorded. In addition, a metallurgical section was removed from one of the failed specimens and a microhardness survey was conducted across the weldment. (Author)
