LIGHTWEIGHT TECHNIQUES STUDY PROGRAM FOR AN/UPS1 CLASS RADARS.

Abstract

The objective of this six-month study program, was to study lightweight techniques applicable to the AN/UPS-1 class of radars. It was the goal of this contract to establish techniques for building lighter, highly mobile, and lessexpensive radar sets. The normal requirements of world-wide environmental capability, long term equipment lige, and military requirements are relaxed to provide a wide latitude in the technical approaches selected for the development of lightweight techniques. The basic considerations allowed limited operational life, relaxation of environmental conditions, and the use of new materials and parts, regardless of military specification status. In this program, the established parameters of the AN/UPS-1 radar were maintained as a measure of standard performance. (Author)
