PROPELLANT STORABILITY IN SPACE.

Abstract

Space simulation studies demonstrated that the operating temperature of earth storable propellant tanks may be accurately controlled by means of selected coatings. Since the tank will eventually come to the average skin temperature, the propellant temperature may be similarly controlled. Any short term variations in external heat fluxes, such as is experienced by an orbiting vehicle, will be damped out in the propellant tank because of its high thermal inertia. (Author)
