PRELIMINARY DESCRIPTION OF THE EDL-R7 RECEIVING SYSTEM,

Abstract

System Description: The ED-R7 Receiving System is a channelized, superheterodyne receiving system capable of search and monitor functions for AM, FM, pulse and CW signals. Multiple combinations of electronic search and manual monitor tuners can be provided, each capable of independent operation from 250 Mc to 12 Gc. The system can be operated from one or more antennas, which can be remotely located if sufficient preamplification is used to overcome transmission line losses. Preamplifiers and postamplifiers preceding the EDL-R7 system are not uniquely a part of the basic concept, but will be discussed below in terms of their effect on the overall system performance. A major feature of the system is its flexibility. It is capable of providing electronic search over wide frequency bands, while simultaneously concentrating multiple tuners in any specific frequency band or bands of high signal density. Further, additional search and/or monitor tuners may be added, or the ratio of search to monitor tuners changed, without system redesign. Typical performance figures include an 8- to 15-db noise figure and a 55- to 60-db dynamic range. (Author)
