FIRST CONGRESS ON THE INFORMATION SYSTEM SCIENCES. SESSION 4. JOINT MAN-COMPUTER DECISION PROCESSES.

Abstract

This report is concerned with decision-making which involves choosing one of a number of alternatives after simultaneously evaluating the several characteristics which distinguish the alternatives. Contained herein are the results of experiments conducted with human subjects to determine how decision-making performance varies with the number of characteristics presented in a complex decision problem. Decision quality and decision time were the two aspects of performance measured. With unlimited decision time, increasing the number of characteristics did not increase decision quality. With limited decision time, increasing the number of characteristics decreased decision quality. (Author)
