RUST REMOVING CORROSION PREVENTIVES - LITERATURE REPORT,

Abstract

A survey of the literature on rust removal and prevention was conducted to (a) determine the status of materials used for these purposes and (b) consider the feasibility of developing a combination, readily removable, oil or solventsoluble rust remover and preventive. At present, no combination product of this type is available which is a completely effective rust remover and preventive. Products are available, however, which, during a suitable conditioning period, penetrate and loosen rust to make it more readily removable. These products also protect against corrosion. Development of a product which not only loosens rust, but also removes it, is the next logical step. It is recommended that such an attempt be made. Several areas for intensive study, which may aid in this development, are suggested. (Author)
