ON THE MECHANISM OF STRENGTHENING IN MARAGING STEELS,

Abstract

To determine whether strengthening in maraging steels was associated with the thermal or athermal component of the stress, calculations were made from data by Bush (1963). Indications were that the principal strengthening mechanism is athermal in nature, and is due to the presence of long-range internal stresses, associated with a fine dispersion of precipitate particles.
