FORMULAS AND CURVES FOR DETERMINING THE ELASTIC GENERAL-INSTABILITY PRESSURES OF RING-STIFFENED CYLINDERS,

Abstract

A set of curves for use in determining the elastic general-instability pressure of ring-stiffened cylindrical shells based on the equations of Kendrick and Bryant is presented. Also, several convenient formulas developed by other investigators are discussed. Numerical results obtained from these methods of solution are presented in tabular form for comparison. The pressures determined from the graphical solution of the Kendrick Part III analysis agree more closely with pressures predicted by Kendrick's equations than by other methods presented and are more easily obtained.
