CONVERSION OF TOPSIDE IONOGRAMS TO EXPONENTIAL ELECTRON-DENSITY PROFILES,

Abstract

Ionograms obtained from the Alouette satellite suggest that above the F2 layer the electrondensity profile is an exponential or quasiexponential function. This concept of electron distribution is used in reducing the ionograms to true-height profiles. The reduction yields the distribution as well as the altitude variation of the exponential function.
